Facial Recognition

The app uses Microsoft technology for facial recognition. You can learn more about the Microsoft Azure Face API on their website.

The Microsoft Azure Face API is designed to work with human faces globally.

Accuracy will largely depend on the quality of the camper photos uploaded in the app by the parents.

If a parent receives a photo of another child, they can tap the tumbledown icon to remove the photo from their album.

How parents can activate facial recognition

Parents must set up Facial Recognition for their camper on their own. Admin cannot set up Facial Recognition for a camper.

Below are the steps to use the Facial Recognition feature in your myCAMPapp:

  1. Login to your myCAMPapp
  2. Go to the More tab
  3. Tap on “My Campers”
  4. Accept the T&C
  5. Take a few photos of your camper - make sure only 1 face shows up in the photo

Repeat steps for each camper.

Tips for this process:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed.
  • If the camera screen is black you need to go to the Settings app on your phone, find our app and edit the settings to allow camera access
  • Zoom the camera to make your camper’s face the same size as the oval.
  • Make sure there is nobody else in the camera frame
  • Make sure there is enough light
  • Take 2 or 3 photos to increase accuracy of the facial recognition technology
  • Photos are automatically saved. You do not need to press the Save button.

The Facial Recognition software will then automatically scan all new photos added to the app for matches. Photos that match your campers will be saved on the Photos tab in a separate albums named for each of your campers.

When encountering camera issues:

The camera preview is black when trying to take photo of camper for facial recognition.

This means that the camera settings need to be changed to allow the app to access the phone camera.
